Frost...

Yesterday morning I woke to a blanket of white out my bedroom window...
So those lovely beans and tomatoes I planted that really don't like it too chilly are now freezing their buts off.....
They were all a lovely shade of white aswell and now a day later are an aweful shade of black... :(
Oh well, I'll hold my head high, learn from this lesson (hopefully, lol!!!) and start from scratch... At least now with my online diary I might be able to prevent this from happening next year...
After talking with a few wiser old gardeners yesterday, the last frost around these parts is usually the 10th of September....

We have had frosts each night since my lettuce went in too Jodie, but my plastic makeshift tent is protecting them thus far. My neighbour lays an old window over his new growth in the raised beds and the frost settles on that instead of the plants - handy if you have one lying around prop it up on some bricks perhaps.

I just wanted to say thanks for coming over and leaving a comment, because now I have found you. We have had problems with frost, I to have a super neighbor that hands down info like tammy and he told us to hose our veggies off in the morning, if you have the water that is. Just to wash off the ice, it seams to help. The problem is on a frosty morning who wants to be standing out in the cold with a hose. Rug Up!!

The saying around here goes that the last frost of the season will be before Ballarat Cup day (15 November), after which it is safe to put the tomatoes in the ground. Last year however, we had a frost a few days before Christmas. What I would do for a growing season as long as yours.
